With ocean views, vibrant lifestyle, world class eateries and sand, it’s no surprise that beachfront real estate at Bondi is highly sought after. Many of the properties are every bit as spectacular as the location, from ultra-stylish penthouses to exquisite apartments with sweeping vistas. It’s not simply the famous beach that tempts those-in-the-know. Bondi’s enticing blend of high-end luxury and laid-back lifestyle makes it an extremely appealing place to live in.
As specialists in Sydney’s prestigious Eastern Suburbs property market, we’ve been fortunate over the years to represent many of the standout properties in and around Bondi Beach. Here, in no particular order, are our pick of the area’s most desirable penthouses and apartments – all of which showcase that breath-taking view. Many of the best properties are situated on Campbell Parade and offer unrivalled and in many cases uninterrupted views of the beach, ocean and coastline.
THE PACIFIC – 180 Campbell Parade, Bondi Beach
One of Bondi’s jewels has to be the award-winning ‘The Pacific’, designed by Koich Takada, SJB Interiors & PTW Architects. Launched 8 years ago, and one of the first mixed-use developments in Bondi, The Pacific includes high-end luxury apartments, exquisite ‘Lighthouse’ penthouses, car parking, a fitness club and pool, an exclusive hotel, restaurants and several high-quality retail outlets. The building features a world-class selection of artworks and a number of international residents have made it their Sydney home.
513, 180 Campbell Parade, Bondi Beach – The Pacific
A gorgeous example of the Lighthouse penthouses is number 513, a stunning residence laid-out over two expansive levels and occupying the sought-after North West corner position of the building. We were delighted to have sold this property in July of 2020, during a pandemic. By utilising our network of qualified buyers, this magnificent property was sold ‘off-market’ in under two weeks.
516 & 517, 180 Campbell Parade, Bondi Beach – The Pacific
517/180 and 516/180 Campbell Parade are also coveted Lighthouse penthouses, both enjoying incredible space and light over two spacious floors. The exquisitely designed residences enjoy the very best design, exclusive finishes and smart technology throughout. Situated on the fifth floor of the PACIFIC building, the two penthouses offer multiple alfresco entertaining spaces and huge sun-drenched terraces that really make the most of their location.
Koich Takada said of the signature Lighthouse designs:
“We knew we had to put the focus on that amazing backdrop of Bondi Beach. Gazing out to the ocean from Pacific’s enormous terraces is so dramatic, it blows your mind. For us, context is very important. We wanted to draw that natural inspiration inside, juxtaposing the energy and texture of the beach environment – the breeze, the air, the smell of the sea salt – with the refinement and luxury embodied within these oceanfront homes. We sought to capture that natural luxury and represent it in physical form.”
“Living here is a beautiful experience. Everything you touch within the space is beautiful. The mood is soft, calming and always easy on the eye.”
We sold the property at 517 a year ago via expressions of interest, followed by 516 in November of 2019. Both apartments are examples of very large (around 170sqm internal each) two bedrooms in a higher price bracket, and both apartments have views looking back towards the city, rather than over Bondi Beach. As these apartments were well above the common price range for most two-bedroom apartments the sale was a gradual process.
Here’s another post we wrote last year about Pacific Bondi:
13/232 Campbell Parade, Bondi Beach – Cadigal Place
Of course, Campbell Parade also plays host to plenty of other standout beachfront homes, such as these three-bed, three-bath apartments which sit atop the stunning Cadigal building on the former Bondi Beach Diggers site. The prestigious Cadigal building is one of the street’s most impressive buildings, attracting celebrated faces like one of Australia’s favourite former cricketers, who recently sold his apartment there.
Meticulous and thoughtful design by Smart Design Studio and Marra + Yeh Architects evokes a relaxed feel with a seamless indoor/outdoor flow, high-end finishes and that glorious setting, a mere 100m to the sand and surf. The apartments have been creatively designed to make the most of the captivating views, with pared-back interiors, wraparound terraces and the extensive use of glass allowing the views to take centre-stage.
Apartment 13 was owned by former Australian cricket captain Michael Clarke. He had bought the sub-penthouse for $6 million a decade ago. It had been rented for a period, returning up to $5000 per week. It was sold for circa $7.25million this year.
6/178 Campbell Parade and 20/178 Campbell Parade – The Beach House
When creating homes overlooking one of the most renowned beaches in the world, it makes sense to take inspiration directly from the world’s most beautiful and tranquil beachside residences. Which is exactly what the architects and designers have done in creating The Beach House, which offers high-end living in a setting that is perfectly in tune with its surroundings.
A collaboration between award-winning architects MHN Design Union and celebrated designers Burley Katon Halliday, they have fused laidback beach house vibes with serious luxury to design a state-of-the-art building that has captured the best of Bondi’s lifestyle. This boutique development is on the doorstep of one of Bondi’s most cutting-edge retail and dining hubs, drawing a sophisticated, contemporary crowd.
The Beach House is a smart and stylish residence with coloured façade panels, patterned windows, awnings and pergolas. Calming, simple interior layouts maximise light, spaciousness and, of course, beach views. Timber has been used to create a beach feel with hardwood timber decking, overhead recycled timber pergola and weathered timber cladding used in the arcade.
Three-bed apartment 6/178 is a fine example of the refined beach feel of the building, offering panoramic views over the full sweep of Bondi Beach. It occupies a coveted north-east corner setting on the sub-penthouse level and has state-of-the-art interiors and mesmerising views. The impeccable blend of modern and traditional sets the scene for the ultimate beachfront lifestyle.
Apartment 6 enjoys an absolute beachfront position. We sold it for $6.5m about three years ago. We also sold number 7 for $6.3m, in 2017 and we are currently listing numbest 10 for sale:
So there you have it – my cream of the crop of Bondi Beachfront penthouses and apartments. We’re truly spoilt for choice in this idyllic location, brimming with prime real estate and home to an exceptional standard of living. We would love to hear your thoughts on your favourite properties in the area – any gems that you think stand proudly amongst these magnificent beachfront homes?
Together, the Goldman Bros. have sold circa 100 luxury apartments and houses in Bondi Beach over the past few years, achieving numerous records along the way and delivering results for valued (and often repeat) clients.
